Twitterでも頻繁にTLに流れてくる
キングコング西野さんが書いた絵本、
『えんとつ町のプペル』を読みました。
最初はあんまり興味なかったんですが、
あまりにも頻繁に見かけている内に
だんだん気になってきてついに読むことに。
まんまと単純接触効果に影響されました。笑
で、結論からいうと、面白かったです。
なんとなくサラッと読んだシーンが
実は伏線だったりして、
この短いストーリーの中での回収は
「美しい」の一言に尽きます。
さて。

先に１回読んでから見るのをオススメします。）
タイトルにもなっているプペルは、
ゴミから生まれたゴミ人間という設定なんですが、
「本当にただのゴミの塊なのか？」と
疑問に思ったので、プペルのもう１つの正体
ということで、個人的な解釈を書いていこうと思います。
まずプペルが生まれたキッカケは、
配達屋さんが配達中の心臓を
ゴミ山に落としてしまったことがキッカケです。
その心臓にいろんなゴミがくっついて、
ゴミ人間プペルが生まれました。
そんなプペルが町へ行くと、
最初は仮装だと思われていたものの、
本物だとバレた途端、みんなが避けるようになります。
奇妙な見た目だったり、ゴミの臭いで
みんな避けていたんですが、
本当にそれだけなのか？
僕は、プペルという存在は
＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝
みんなが諦めて捨ててしまった
”夢や、憧れや、理想の塊”
＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝
を象徴しているのでないか？と感じました。
そもそもゴミというのは、
辞書によると「無いほうが良いもの」や
「捨てられたもの」と出てきます。
どんなときに捨てるか？
ほとんどは「要らないもの」だったり
「あると邪魔なもの」ですよね。
そして、夢や憧れや理想というのは、
もちろんあることで良い面もあるのですが、
あればあるほど現実の自分とのギャップによって
「苦しみ」も生み出すのです。
それを楽しめる心だったり、
挫けない強いメンタルがあればいいんですが、
大半の人は、大きな壁を前に挫折してしまいます。
「そういうもんだ」
「しょうがないんだ」と諦めて、
いつしか捨ててしまいます。
そうやって捨てられたものを
「ゴミ」と見立てて、その塊として
プペルという存在になったわけです。
つまり、町の人たちがプペルを嫌がるのは、
＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝
自分の捨ててしまった夢や憧れを
目の前に持ってこられたから。
＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝
人間、一度決めたことは貫こうとする
一貫性の原則という心理があるので、
諦めたことをまた目の前に持ってこられると
反射的に反発するのです。
唯一、ルビッチがプペルを避けなかった理由は、
ルビッチはお父さんから聞いた
「煙のうえには星がある」という話（夢）を
みんなにバカにされながらも信じていたから。
ルビッチは、捨てていなかったのです。
そして、夢や憧れを諦めた人ほど、
それを目指す人に否定的な言葉をかけたりして
引き止めようとするわけですが、
ルビッチがいじめられたのも、捨てていなかったから。
そんなルビッチは、唯一お父さんの写真が入っている
ペンダントをドブ川に落としています。
それはゴミ山に流れ着いていて、
実は、プペルの脳の部分になっていました。
（それを引きちぎるとプペルは動かなくなる）
そんなプペルは、風船をつけた空飛ぶ船を用意し、
ルビッチを連れて「星を見にいこう」と提案します。
それを受け入れられたのも、
ルビッチが夢を捨てていなかったからだと思います。
プペルがいたからこそ、ルビッチは
最高の場所から星を見ることができました。
プペルは、ゴミではなく
夢を運んできたのです。
これが、もう１つの正体。
以上、僕の個人的な解釈でした。
そんな視点でもう一度読んでみると、
また違った楽しみ方が出来るんじゃないかなと思います。
